Born an orphan (his mother died giving birth to him), Zevran was sold to the crows at the age of seven to cover a portion of the debt he inherited from her owed to the whorehouse she worked in prior to having him. While with the guild he was trained to be an assassin and paired with a human boy, Taliesin, who became a protector and confidant until they reached adolescence. A third crow, Rinnala, was added to their duo to make something truly special, and Zevran slowly fell in love with her. They became a formidable trio well into their mid-twenties until a mission gone awry forced Zevran to kill Rinnala under suspicion of treason, only for him to find out he'd been set up by Taliesin and the Crows as a reminder that they are all expendable. Dispairing and in pain he takes a seemingly impossible job to assassinate the remaining Grey Wardens in Ferelden, an attempt to end his own life. When they spare him after his attempt, he throws his lot in with them, as failure means death in the Crows. Alongside the warden and their merry band Zevran made himself a valuable ally in the fight to end the Blight, confronted Taleslin and helped the Warden slay him when the Crows once again make an attempt on their life. Befriending the group helped Zevran learn to be more than a mere Assassin and facing Talislin lit a fire to do more than survive the Crows- after the Blight he began systematically assassinating the Grand Masters that run the organization in Antiva, earning the title of Ombra Nera.

(Enter AU history here- )

During his attempts to both elude and dismantle the Crows in Antiva, Zevran is given a contract to prevent an assassination during the Conclave in Fereldan, meant to protect the Divine and those that would hopefully end the Mage and Templar civil war. In a case of wrong place, wrong time, Zevran is the unfortunate soul that stumbled upon Corypheus and the Divine just prior to the explosion that leveled the Temple of Sacred Ashes, granting him The Anchor in his palm and the responsibility slash accusation of being the one to both cause the tear in the veil, and the task of sealing it. Dragged by Leliana, a former companion from the Blight, and the other advisors, Zevran made the trek to haven, recruited the other companions, and did his best as the supposed Herald of Andraste to fake it until he made it as a hero type, befriending as many people as possible to sway to his cause. After parlaying and managing to side with portions of both the mages and templars not yet quite under Corypheus' sway, Zevran sealed the large tear in the veil over the temple of sacred ashes and returned to Haven to celebrate. Shortly after Corypheus' attack, he and the remaining Inquisition find their way to Skyhold where he hoped to find some rest, only to be titled Inquisitor and charged with well and truly saving the world.

▶ What is Your Character's Sin?:

Gluttony. Life is short, enjoy as much as you can as best you can, for you never know when you shall die. Enjoy wine for tomorrow there may be none, enjoy food for you never know when you'll be able to afford another fine meal, enjoy pleasing company in bed, you never know when something might kill you. In moderation, not terrible, but Zevran takes these to self-destructive extremes, clawing for as many scraps of good or hedonistic pleasure as he can wring out of his scrap of life- even with the glory of becoming a hero, he wants as much of that adulation as he can hold, well aware that the task of ending the Blight might kill him and after? Well aware that the Crows might come down on him. Continuing to be something of a folk hero is an attempt to continue to have that glory, that fame by doing something he was already predisposed to do (killing the Grandmasters), sating a need to have things, experiences, people that will make up for his lack of family, roots, or solid direction aside from his desire for freedom and free choice, to live as he pleases now that he is no longer associated with the Crows. Even now as the Inquisitor, certain that the anchor or circumstance will see him dead, he indulges as much as he can to enjoy life, the fame, and the reverence he's been granted by failing to die when the explosion rocked the conclave.

▶ Notes: The Anchor is meant to react with The Fade which seems specific to Thedas in particular, so nerfing the everything that it can do is as simple as 'magic here doesn't work like magic in Thedas' if needed.
